Installing Xymon on Fedora 17
Turning now to installing xymon on Fedora 17, as I have several Fedora 17 vms and feel like monitoring them. Here are the steps to do this.
All of the following steps are performed as root. This is not a script, you can’t just paste this as a script, but each step can be performed in sequence.
We install several packages, some of which you may already have installed, but if so no matter yum will skip them.
yum install wget gcc make pcre-devel openssl-devel openldap-devel rrdtool-devel
d/l xymon-4.3.10.tar.gz from http://sourceforge.net/projects/xymon/ and cd into the directory where you have saved the xymon-4.3.10.tar.gz package.
groupadd xymon useradd -g xymon -m xymon wget http://fping.org/dist/fping-3.2.tar.gz tar zxf fping-3.2.tar.gz cd fping-3.2 ./configure make && make install cd .. tar -xvzf xymon-4.3.10.tar.gz cd xymon-4.3.10 ./configure --server make && make install
You will need to answer several questions. You do want to use fping, take all the defaults, you will need to specify the host ip of the xymon server instead of the default. If you miss that you can always do it later.
With this done you will still need to go to the xymon server and add the entries to the bb-hosts file for each fedora 17 server you have configured.
