Just The Important Parts Please

So you want to compare a couple postgresql.conf files.  The trouble is they are 3/4 comments and blank lines.   Seeing which lines are actually setting anything means wading through a lot of files and probably missing one or two.

cat postgresql.conf | sed 's/^[ \t]*//' | grep -v "^#" | grep -v '^$'

The above will strip out all blank lines, and all lines that are only comments leaving you with just the parameters that are actually being set in the config file.   You may also want to ” | sort ” just in case they are in different orders between the two files.

Thats todays Postgres nature nugget.
